Conservation Informed by Technology – Feat: Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area

This May’s CivicTechYYC we are learning from Greg Shyba, CEO of Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area, about their innovative efforts in wildlife conservation that use new technologies and leverage multiple platforms and datasets. Topics and technologies will include technology enhanced mapping, trail info delivered digitally for visitors, wildlife migration and behavioral data using new wildlife camera technology, the impacts of climate change on the landscape, and more.

“The Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area (ASCCA) is a 4,800 acre day use natural area.  It is located just south west of the City of Calgary. The Cross Conservation Area is dedicated to:

-protecting habitat and providing space for native species of wildlife

-offering conservation education programs (particularly to youth) without jeopardizing wildlife and habitat

-managing human use of the area through a series of guidelines”
